She was born in Oak Hill, WV on March 14, 1935 to Thomas Henry Mason and Virginia Hall Mason.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Jennie Lee Mason and her first husband Thomas Evans Burks.
Martha was a leader. She was head majorette at Collins High School in Oak Hill, WV. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics (1956) and had a long career as a dietitian in many hospitals and health care facilities across the country.
During her college years, Martha served on various committees and was president of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Some of her community service include Meal on Wheels, Trinity Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky., and The Billy Graham Crusades.
in addition to her leadership qualities, Martha was an entrepreneur. She owned and ran a deli Also, she enjoyed horses and owned some champion trotters. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Burks Chafin, (Val), two grandchildren, Sarah Brooks Parson (Eric) and Christopher Burks Chafin (Jodi), three great grandchildren, Sophia Jane Parson, William James Parson and Sloane Khepri Chafin, her brother, Tom Mason (Jonetta) and nieces and nephews, she treasured.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday July 6, 2023 at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held an hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Davis Heathcare Community, Lower Cape Fear Lifecare or a charity of your choice.
