Martha Powell Hammond, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at home. She was born in Columbus County, NC, October 6, 1930 the daughter of the late James Monroe and Martha Blackwell Powell. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Hammond, Jr. Mrs. Hammond was a member of the Pine Valley Church of God and had been very active with the Food Pantry in various local churches. She is survived by her children; Joni Hammond Redrick and husband Gary, Danny C. Hammond, Teresa Robinson and husband David, Carol Springstead, Chyrel Pridgen, and Charles W. Cribb all of Wilmington, 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a sister, Margaret Carter of Opoka, FL, and two brothers, Marshall Powell and Mitchell Powell, both of Cerro Gordo, NC. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Andrews Valley Chapel with Rev. Richard Williford officiating. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM at Andrews Valley Chapel.
