Mary Evelyn (Shipman) Blanton

Mary Evelyn Blanton went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. She was a young 90 years old. Mary loved children and dedicated her life to working with them. She was a cafeteria worker for 20 years and gave many a child lunch money when they had none. She was preceded in death by her husband Obbie M. Blanton Jr. Mary was also proceeded in death by her son, Obbie M. Blanton III, and a daughter, Susan Blanton Johnson. Mary “Mimi” is survived by a daughter, Toi Blanton Pettus (Brian) and a daughter-in –law, Valerie Johnson Blanton (Obbie III). Toi and Valerie cared for Mary during her last days at Hospice. Toi was fortunate to be with her mother when she passed. Mary is survived by 9 grandchildren; Adam, Jared, Rachel, Olivia, Roger, Baron, Erika, Cade, and Samuel, and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Nicholas P. Pettus and Shawn R, Pettus. Donations may be made to Mary’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Following the service, family may be received at the home of Toi and Brian Pettus at 6819 Canetuck Rd in Currie NC. Call for directions. Mary, Moma, Mimi we love you to the moon.
