

Mary Carolyn Armstrong Covil, affectionately known as GrandMary, 92, of Wilmington, NC took her final journey home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday evening, November 24, 2016. Born March 17, 1924 in Duplin Co, NC, she is the daughter of Robert William Armstrong, Sr. and Mattie Harrell Armstrong. In addition to her parents, she is reunited with her husband, William Clifford Covil; and three brothers, Robert William Armstrong, Jr., Richard Harrell Armstrong and William Clark Armstrong and her eldest son, David Frederick Covil.
Mary is survived by her youngest son, Jerry Allan Covil and his wife, Wanda of Castle Hayne; her grandchildren, Michelle Lynne Covil Lewis and husband Ricky, Kimberly Gwynn Cramer; great grandchildren, Porter Allan Cramer and Ryker Covil Avent; and special sisters-in-law, Ernestine Carrow Armstrong of Atlanta, GA and Inez Johnson Covil of Wilmington, NC and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary was a member of Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church where she actively served her Lord for over 65 years. She took pride in ensuring her home was welcoming and enjoyed providing delicious culinary creations. Mary’s wonderful sense of humor provides beautiful memories filled with laughter for friends and loved ones.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm November 29, 2016 at Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church. Prior to the service the family will receive friends beginning at 1pm. Burial will immediately follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the love and care provided by the staff and Hospice care at Liberty Commons, and Dr. Mary Rudyk and staff.
