Mary Blackburn Edens

Mary Blackburn Edens, 93, of Hampstead, NC, died Monday, November 29, 2010 at her residence. She was born on July12, 1917, in Teachey, NC, the daughter of the late William Samuel Blackburn and Bertha Carroll Blackburn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hugh Edens, Sr., in 1980. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Hugh Edens, Jr. Mrs. Edens was a founding member and the oldest living member of Barlow Vista Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Stump Sound Chapter #338, in Sneads Ferry, NC. She is survived by three children, Sandra Edens Siska and husband, Gabor, Garmon W. Edens, and Diane Edens Thomas and husband, Johnie; twelve grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Millard Carroll Blackburn; three sisters, Virginia Blackburn Oliver, Pauline ""Peggy"" Blackburn Baldwin, and Lucile Blackburn Patrick. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel. A funeral service will be held 11:00 Wednesday at Barlow Vista Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby McGraw officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 4601 Park Ave., Wilmington, NC 28403.
