Mary Thorne Hayes

Mary Thorne Hayes, 85, of Wilmington, died Friday, March 9, 2012, at Pacifica Senior Living. Mary was born July 20, 1920, in Wilson, NC, to the late James Lewis Thorne and Minnie Barnes Thorne. She was a member of Sunset Park Baptist Church and retired as a nurse at New Hanover Regional Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Hayes, Sr.; granddaughter, Emily Hayes and a sister, Alda Blake. Survivors include her children, Susan Hayes Weaver and husband John Weaver, Aubrey Hayes, Jr. and wife Marsha Hayes, David Lewis Hayes and Marianne Gore and her husband Charles W. Gore; grandchildren, Patricia McCumbee and husband Terry, Julie Clemmons, Mason Goslee, Staci Hayes, Heather Hayes, Bill Gore and wife Tennille and James Gore and his wife Cheryl; thirteen great grandchildren and a special caregiver, Lorna Pettitt. A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Monday, March 12, 2012, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401
