

Mary Tompkins Lupton, a lifelong resident of Wilmington, died peacefully on November 4 at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Wilmington.
She was born July 19, 1939 to Lonnie and Lucy Tompkins. She was married in 1959 to Thomas Lupton who preceded her in death in 2018, along with her parents and her sister, Betty Tompkins Hardison.
She is survived by her son, Tommy Lupton of Woodruff, SC and his partner Sherri Misiak of Woodruff, SC, her daughter Whitney Lupton of Midlothian, VA, her three grandchildren Matthew Lupton, Caleb Lupton, and Olivia Lupton, as well as three great-grandchildren and her former brother-in-law and lifelong friend, Milton Hardison of Wilmington.
Mary spent her life as a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was a long-time member of Temple Baptist Church and a 1957 graduate of New Hanover High School. She attended Wilmington College.
Funeral arrangements are made with Andrews Mortuary at the Valley Chapel location, 4108 S. College Road. There will be a visitation there on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 1:00PM, and a chapel service at 2:00PM. The service will be conducted by Dr. Kelly Stanley. Entombment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Lupton, Caleb Lupton, Ted Lupton, and Jeff Bordeaux.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers any memorial gifts might include contributions to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center or the Parkinson’s Foundation Carolinas Chapter.
