(Oct 30, 1969 – Nov 30, 2023)
Mary Roper Wright, known to her friends and family as Molly, 54, of Wilmington NC passed away peacefully in her sleep early on November 30th.
Molly was born here in Wilmington at New Hanover Memorial hospital to Beverly Bailey Wright and James Knowlton Wright sr.
While growing up her family constantly moved but wherever she was Molly always considered Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington to be her true home.
Molly was known for her quick razor-sharp wit and intelligence. She was usually the biggest and brightest personality in any room. She was hysterically funny, and people flocked to her.
Molly treasured her friends and family so much that in her mind friends often became family. When someone was truly in need, she could always be counted on to help. She gave of herself, her time, her resources, and even her home freely. She often helped look after the elderly in her neighborhood. She was quick to make grocery runs or drive them to doctors’ appointments when needed. She was a truly giving and caring soul.
Molly’s pets were her children. She adopted stray dogs, cats, and sometimes even wild animals from the neighborhood. All were welcome and could find a loving home in her arms.
She is survived by her father, James K Wright Sr., and stepmother Martha Wright. her mother, Beverly Bailey Wright, her brother James K “Jimbo” Wright Jr., sister-in-law Tisha Kennedy, nephew Bennett Bailey Wright, partner Worth Godwin of Raleigh and her two adored rescue dogs Mitzi & Pyppy.
Though Mollys life on earth has ended too soon for us our memories of her and her love for the world will live on within the people and pets she encountered during the time we had with her.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to local animal charities:
There will be a graveside service for Molly at Oleander Memorial Gardens on Saturday Dec 9th at 2PM. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
