Mary A. Moran peacefully departed this world on January 18th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at New Hanover House, with the compassionate support of Gentiva Hospice in Wilmington, NC.
Born on January 17th, 1927, in Waukegan, Illinois, Mary lived a remarkable life spanning 97 years. On March 9, 1957, she married David J. Moran, a US Naval Veteran, in Watertown, New York. Their life's journey led them through many locations, including Panama, Rhode Island, North Chicago, IL; Watertown, NY; Lake Placid, NY; and Newark, NY. Unfortunately, on May 12th, 1980, David passed away at the age of 49, his health bearing the impact of his dedicated service to his country during the Korean War. After David's passing, Mary devoted her time to her children, finding solace in the Carolinas.
In her career, Mary devoted herself to roles in customer service and health care, and she also actively volunteered in education and community services. However, her deepest source of pride came from being a devoted homemaker for her cherished family
Mary is survived by her three sons: Thomas Moran (Sue Boyce) of Wilmington, NC; John Moran (Jennifer) of Portland, OR; David Moran (Kara) of Massapequa Park, NY; and her daughter, Carole Hunt of Orangeburg, SC.
A source of immense pride for Mary was her family, which includes eight grandchildren: Rachel, David, Alex, Emily, Eloise, Emma, Bridgette and Jeremiah, as well as seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The Moran family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff and volunteers of Gentiva Hospice in Wilmington, NC, for their exceptional care, compassion, and support. They also extend their thanks to New Hanover House in Wilmington, NC, for their invaluable services.
