Mary Margaret Silver

Mary Margaret Bayerle Silver, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died on August 20, 2011.

Mary was born in St. Cloud, MN to the late Raymond and Mary Kuharski Bayerle. The majority of her formative years were spent in Minneapolis. Her desire to help people who were sick led to her becoming a Registered Nurse and later to complete advanced training in psychiatric nursing at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She was recruited as Director of the Psychiatric Nurse Training Affiliate Program at Fergus Falls State Hospital, a position she held until leaving to raise her family.

She married Dr. Reuben Silver in 1951. They lived in Minnesota for 11 years before moving to Delmar, NY for over 38 years. In 2000, they moved to Wilmington, NC.

Mary’s interests included sewing, needlework of all kinds, gardening, home repairs, reading, shopping, and cooking. Her organizing skills were the envy of her family. She was a baseball and basketball fan, and she enjoyed bowling and golf as a participant, once even scoring a hole-in-one.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother Conrad Bayerle and her sister Phyllis Gausman.

Mary is survived by her husband, Dr. Reuben Silver; son, Gerald Silver and wife, Cindy, of Hartsville, SC; daughter, Kathleen Pearre and husband, Howard, of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Anna Mae Silver of Buffalo, NY; Samuel Silver and wife, Kerianne, of Clifton Park, NY; Matthew Silver of Saratoga Springs, NY; Abigail Muller and husband, Christopher, of Vienna, VA; Amy Dunn and husband, Ryan, of Smyrna, GA; and David Pearre and wife, Jessica, of Portland, OR; and great-granddaughters Elizabeth, Susannah and Madeline Muller and Juliet Dunn.

Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 23rd at 11 am by Rev. Robert Kus with Rabbi Robert Waxman assisting at Oakdale Cemetery, 520 North 15th Street, Wilmington, NC.
