

Michael Edward Swartz passed away on Friday May 1st, 2026. Born December 25th 1940 in Pratt, West Virginia the son of James and Priscilla "Dolly" Swartz. In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his wife of 45 years Carlene G. Swartz.
Michael is survived by his Daughter, Michele Swartz Garcia (the late Johnny) of Alamogordo, NM; Son, Shawn Michael Swartz (Michele) of Wilmington, NC; Stepson, James William Martin of Jupiter, FL and Grandson, John Garcia (David) of Alamogordo, NM; along with his Brother, James Swartz (Sandy) of Wilmington, NC as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Michael grew up in the Charleston area of West Virginia where he was a master diesel mechanic and later moved to Fayette County West Virginia where he was owned a coal trucking business.
Michael was an avid aviator flying thousands of hours and owned a private airport in Fayetteville, West Virginia. Michael along with his wife Carlene owned many rental properties in and around the Wilmington, NC area as well as the Oak Hill, West Virginia area where they both enjoyed visiting.
In 1984 Michael and Carlene founded “Island Appliance” originally in Carolina Beach later relocated to the Monkey Junction area since 1993 of which together they grew to one of the larger appliance sales companies in Wilmington.
As a stepson to Michael, I would mention that as my father he was very loyal and devoted and always was there for me even more than any father could for most sons. This devotion and loyalty were espoused on those Michael knew. He loved life and accomplishment; he loved his friends and relatives and he loved Carlene.
A service of Michael’s life will be celebrated at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd., on Saturday May 9th at 10:00 AM.
