Myrtle "Lee" Downing Smith

Myrtle “Lee” was born on July 26, 1934 in Bladen County, NC. She was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Christopher M. Greer; sister, Edith Downing Cheek; her parents, George Wiley Downing and Willie Mae Butler Downing; brother, Kim Downing; and her husband, A.J. Smith.

Surviving are her children, Mike Parker (Linda), Tammy Greer and Steve Parker; four grandchildren, David Greer (Brittany), Danielle Greer, Jackson Parker and Nathan Parker; two nieces, Lacala Cheek Ellsworth and Terry Cheek Martsolf (Tim).

Myrtle “Lee” graduated from New Hanover High School, Class of 1953. She was a long-time member of Winter Park Baptist Church before she moved to Burlington, NC in 1972.

Myrtle “Lee” owned and operated Suburban Realty from 1973 – 1996. She moved back to Wilmington to be closer to her family and friends and sold real estate for David Greer and Associates until she retired. She once again became a member of Winter Park Baptist Church.

The Bible was her favorite book and read it every day. Myrtle “Lee” loved gardening, dancing, nature, traveling and above all she loved her family and friends! She greeted everyone with a beautiful smile and a lot of love. Myrtle “Lee” loved to entertain and was a fabulous cook!  Myrtle “Lee” will be remembered for her beautiful soul and for the love she had for the Lord!

A memorial service will be held at Winter Park Baptist Church on July 30, 2022 at 2:00 pm.

The family would like to express a very special note of thanks to her caregivers, Asia and Kristen, who were like family to her. They also want to thank the entire staff at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare for their care and support.
