Nancy's greatest joy in life was her family. She went from being known as "Big Mike's wife" or "Chiefs wife" to her ultimate name "Grammy", known and loved by all. Grammy was always ready to help someone even if it meant she didn't have it herself.
Grammy has four surviving children, Micheal "Myke" Thornton Jr (wife - Jennie) of Jacobus, PA, Robert "RJ" Thornton of Leland, Krista Rodriguez-Doyle (husband - Vernon) of Leland and Jason "Dirty" Thornton of Leland. The apples of her eye were her 13 grandchildren. The twinkles in her eyes were her eight great-grandchildren, along with numerous bonus kids that knew no different!
She is also survived by 5 brothers, their wives, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Cornerstone Baptist Church of Leland, 1638 Lanvale Rd Leland, NC 28451, Saturday June 28th at 2pm. The service will be officiated by Pastor Bobby McKnight.
The family will receive guests at Cornerstone Baptist, after the funeral service for food and fellowship. Anyone who wishes to donate covered dishes is welcome and appreciated.
Nancy's family would like to thank all the medical teams who have provided care for Nancy over the last year. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to her Primary Care Physician, Justin Asbury, who always made sure Nancy had exactly what she needed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to "Children in Christ", a local youth camp that is funded solely through donations and fundraisers by camp volunteers, so that kids can attend camp free for a week each summer. Donations can be made in Nancy's (aka Grammy's) memory via check or money order, payable to Children in Christ, 638 George II Hwy, Winnabow NC 28479 or by Venmo @CIC_RockFish_2023.
