

Nora Lou Spence Price, devoted wife and mother, died peacefully at home with her sons by her side on Sept. 14, 2014. She was 90 years old. Nora Lou was born in Washington DC, the daughter of the late Enoch Julian and Ruth McDonald Spence. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Archie R. Price Jr. (Dec. 10, 2013). She met her husband at a USO sponsored dance during the late 1940's at the conclusion of WWII. They continued to share their love of dancing and adventures. As an older couple, they traveled extensively, visiting most of the US and many foreign countries. Their adventures included trips to all the continents except Antarctica and even a visit to Havana, Cuba during the early l95O's. Her home was filled with artifacts from their travels. She was quick to share an interesting story about the history and purchase of the treasures found during their trips aboard. Nora Lou had an extensive career with the federal government. Her career included employment with the Department of the Army, the Atomic Energy Commission, and finally for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Nora Lou was especially proud of her work with the Army's Surgical Division at the Pentagon during the Korean Conflict. Upon her retirement, she pursued her interests in travel, classic novels, and cross stitch creations for her home and family. She helped raise her young family in Holmdel, NJ before relocating to Liberty, NC in 1976. She and her husband later moved to Wilmington, NC and enjoyed being closer to their two sons and grandchildren. Nora Lou is survived by her son Robert G. Price of Wilmington, his wife Susan, and their three children Savannah, Caroline and Spencer. Her son Craig J. Price of Mooresville, NC, her brother Julian C. Spence and his wife Miriam of Hoschton, GA and their family. Also surviving are her brother-in-law Bill Ray Price of Pensacola, FL and sister-in-law Louise Mayberry of Roanoke VA and both their families. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Funeral services will be held graveside at Whitney Cemetery, in Morgans Corner, NC at a later date. Nora Lou was a former member of Tabernacle UMC in Greensboro, NC and current member of Trinity UMC in Wilmington.
