Norean Lewis, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 15, 2025. She is survived by her son Ron Lewis (Tracy) of Greenville, SC; daughter Cindy Franklin (Darrell) of Wilmington, NC; 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Norman Gurganious and Lillie Mae Gurganious Lancaster, sister Betty Mae McKay, and her loving husband of 63 years Donald Lewis.
Mom was always a good friend to others during her lifetime. She was known as a big hugger and loved to make new friends! People loved Norean upon meeting her! She played the church organ during her younger years. As an adult she baked cakes as gifts to cheer up her friends. She showed her love for her family continuously in everything she did. She had many hobbies in her younger years, to name a few: ceramics, crocheting, sewing, drawing, planting flowers, and gardening and canning many vegetables. However, her favorite was cooking delicious meals which she was so known for.
She and Donald shared a wonderful life together. Norean was a loving and supportive wife, and she was the sunshine in Donald’s life. You rarely saw one without the other! She was always an integral part of Donald’s military career as well. They were stationed in Richmond, VA; Kodiak, AK; Chincoteague, VA; Wilmington, NC; Elizabeth City, NC (3 times), and Honolulu, HI. So many memories were made in their travels. While Dad was stationed overseas, she made sure her children were taken care of and given the support they needed.
Our precious mom helped our dad in building and managing Deerfield Mobile Home Park. All the tenants loved Mom and Dad and had such respect for them. Many former tenants would visit them frequently, as they deemed them extended family.
Mom and Dad truly loved the Lord, attending church, interacting with many members of their church family, and participating in many church activities. Their Godly brothers and sisters have been a blessing to not only Mom and Dad, but to the rest of our family as well. Your love and continued support through their trials eased the struggles that they faced. With all of our hearts, we thank you.
She and Donald hosted numerous “shrimperoos” and oyster roasts for friends at their home. They loved spending time and fellowship with their friends at these events! She and Donald enjoyed the senior church bus trips over the years. They visited Nashville, Pigeon Forge, and Amish country to name a few. Their favorite personal trips included the mountains in several states, and Branson, MO, where they enjoyed many wonderful shows.
We are grateful to our Lord for giving us our dear mother for so many years. We are blessed for her love and godly example. Her price is far above rubies! We will miss our sweet mother tremendously, but we are comforted knowing that she is with our heavenly Father and our Dad. How fitting it is that she left us on Father’s Day. What a sweet reunion that must have been!
We would like to thank our extended family and friends who showed love and support for Mom during the time since Dad’s death. In addition, we thank the staff of Spring Arbor for taking such loving care of Mom during her stay the past 2 years. Your compassion and kindness for Mom truly means a lot to our family. Thank you to Lower Cape Fear Life Care for your tender care for Mom and consideration for our family during her final days with us.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 1 o’clock to 2 o’clock on June 18, 2025, at Fellowship Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC, with the service following at 2 o’clock in the church auditorium, officiated by Pastor Arnold Griffin. Graveside service will follow at Oleander Gardens.
