Born in Rocky Ford, GA to Augustus and Alma Newton, she faced many losses over the course of her life, beginning with the sudden death of her father on her 9th birthday. Despite these, she always found a way to move forward and find happiness in life, choosing love, laughter, and the support of loved ones and dear friends.
Norma spent many happy years as the Director of Medical Records at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital and was a member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church since 1963. She was generous to a fault, always loving, and her memory will forever be cherished by those who loved her.
In addition to her parents and siblings, Norma was preceded in death by her daughter Georgia Best Tarbet of Bedford TX, her first husband George E. Best, and her second husband Walter R. Dixon. She is survived by her daughter Edna Coggins (John) of Charlotte NC, her grandchildren Lauren Shadd (Allen) of Lake Wylie SC, Jason Tarbet (Lori) of Arlington TX, and Mike (Michelle) of Temple TX, as well as six great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am on September 17 at Pine Valley United Methodist Church, with a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Lower Cape Fear Lifecare, where she received amazing care in her final days, or Pine Valley United Methodist Church, her beloved church home.
