Norton Robert Davis

Norton Robert Davis, of Wilmington, died Friday, November 28, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Bladen County, NC, one of ten children, to the late Evander Jerome and Alice Autry Davis. He was preceded in death by four of his siblings, Hettie Benton, Ila Smith, Floyd Davis, and Gertrude Hinson. Mr. Davis was retired from Sears with 36 years of service in the Lawn and Garden Center. He was a member and Deacon of Winter Park Baptist Church and a member of the United Commercial Travelers for over 50 years. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. An avid gardner, he was known for sharing his vegetables with his friends and neighbors and also as a talented handyman able to repair all types of things. He is survived by his wife Alma Greene Davis, a son, Thad Davis and Sharon Darity of Wilmington, two daughters, Secanda Seifred of Southport, and Rhonda Hatch and her husband Mark of Charlotte, also his grandchildren; Robert, Andrew, and James Hatch and Stephani, Sara, Danny, and Elizabeth Coleman. He is also survived by three sisters, Scotia Huneycutt, Katie Reynolds, and Juanita Rich and two brothers, Richard Davis and Marion Davis. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, November 30, 2008 at Winter Park Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service.
