
Patricia Lloyd Cooper Watts, 84, died April 18, 2021 in Wilmington, NC. Patricia was born in Evanston, Illinois in 1936, daughter of the late John D. and Elizabeth L. Cooper. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Thurman Watts; her sister, Diana L. Hickman, her brother-in-law Caudill Hays Watts; her brother-in-law Jack Dennis; and her sister-in-law Erma Lee Smith. She was joined in death this week by her sister-in-law, Brenda Watts.
She is survived by her brother-in-law Harold E. Hickman of Statesville, NC; her sister-in-law Tiffany Del Dennis of Maryville, TN; sister-in-law Patricia Fay Napier and husband Leonard of Prichard, WV; brother-in-law Charles Ray Watts and wife Margie of Huntington, WV; brother-in-law Donald Carlos Watts and wife Joanne of Wilmington, NC; brother-in-law Boyd Earl Watts of Northwood, OH; sister-in-law Mary June Watts of South Point, OH; and many nieces and nephews, and their families.
Patricia graduated from Marshall University with a degree in English in 1958. She joined her husband, Thurman, as his military career took them from base to base, with a highlight of living in Hawaii for four years while Thurman was assigned to CINCPAC headquarters. Following final postings in Arlington and Radford, VA, the couple moved to North Carolina, calling Mount Airy and Wilmington home.
Patricia was involved in military support and community service throughout her life, supporting the U.S. Army military family support services, Rotary International, Chamber of Commerce, United Fund, Paws4People, and others. A lifelong artist, Patricia’s favorite medium was paints. Many of her pieces were made for charitable events, local businesses, and friends.
A true friend, with great zest for life and great love for family and friends, she will be missed by all. The family wishes to thank all those at Davis Community and Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare who have given professional care with such kindness and support.
The family will receive friends on April 29, 2021 from 5 to 7 pm at Coble Funeral Services, 1155 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC. A private burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patricia’s name to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) Foundation in Wilmington, NC.
