Born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Patrick, affectionately known as "Pat," carried his love for New England with him throughout his life. He was a die-hard fan of the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and Boston Bruins. After moving with his family to Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 12, he continued cheering for his beloved New England teams while also developing a deep passion for the UNC Wilmington Seahawks baseball and basketball teams. Rarely did a home game go by without Pat in attendance.
Patrick had an extraordinary memory and a gift for remembering sports statistics and historical facts. You could ask him who won the Super Bowl in almost any given year or who took home the top music award that year, and chances were he knew the answer. His knowledge went far beyond sports. He was an avid collector of all things sports and loved keeping up with the latest news and happenings. He continued to follow the news in his hometown of Newburyport and sometimes knew more about what was happening there than the people who still lived there!
Patrick was a dedicated employee of Publix, where he truly enjoyed his work family and customers. He valued the relationships he built along the way and will be remembered for the big smile he so often wore.
Patrick was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Donovan Neelon, and his father, Robert M. Neelon.
He is survived by his beloved aunt and confidant, Katherine Chase of Charleston, South Carolina; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he dearly loved.
A celebration of Patrick's life will be held at a time TBD, on Thursday November 12, 2026 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC. Burial will be in Massachusetts.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Patrick will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His big smile, remarkable memory, love of sports, and enthusiasm for the things he loved will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
