Peter N. Burr, 71, passed away peacefully at home after a short fight with lung cancer. He was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Hazel and Albert Burr. He lived in Fairfield until 2010 when he retired and moved to Wilmington, NC.
Peter graduated from Morris Harvey College in Charleston, West Virginia. He worked for RT Vanderbilt Company, Norwalk, CT, for 25 years in various jobs – purchasing, sales, and, lastly, HR. He loved to work on things – rebuilding houses, his Little British Cars, woodworking on his new lathe. Kids loved him because he had all the toys – bikes, motorcycles, skis, boats, kayaks, target and skeet shooting. He loved being outdoors and he loved teaching kids to have fun. He could argue a point until he was blue in the face or you gave up, whichever came first, but once you were his friend, it was forever. He had no mere acquaintances.
Peter was an enthusiastic member of the British Motor Club of the Cape Fear, Wilmington Area Woodturners Association, UNCW’s CEN program and the Buccaneer Gun Club.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to all, he leaves his wife of 45 years, Karen, his daughter, Abigail, and her husband, Dustin Reynolds, his son, Geoffrey, his wife, Carrie, and their two beautiful redheads, Charlotte and Callie, his brother Todd and his family, (he was predeceased by his brother, Howard) niece Julie Cox and her family, nephew John Burr and his family, nephews Ryan Burr and his family, and Dan Burr, as well as so many other family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street, Wilmington, NC at 2:00 PM. Instead of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
