Peter was born in South Amboy, New Jersey on December 2nd, 1962 to Lillian and Anton Svizeny as the youngest of five children. Peter was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his siblings, wife, and three children.
A natural builder, Peter enjoyed hands-on projects, whether they were for work or pleasure. He had a 30-year occupation as a machinist, and family and friends loved receiving his hand-made furniture pieces.
In 1990, Peter met Patricia Stockton on a blind date motorcycle ride. A year later, he proposed using an airplane banner at the beach. The two married in 1991. They soon welcomed their firstborn son, Peter, their second son, Josh, and their youngest daughter, Molly. Raising his three children was his greatest accomplishment.
A loving, involved, and proud father, Peter went out of his way to support his children and make them happy. He would spend countless hours constructing Legos for his sons. He helped build school projects, cheered at sporting events, and volunteered to drive his children and friends all over town.
Peter was the master chef of many family meals. Some of the family’s favorites were his pierogis or pork chops. When conversing over a meal or in the living room, his family rarely had to google a thing, whether it was an actor’s name or a bit of history. His family teased him as the ‘Fountain of Useless Knowledge’.
Peter has provided his family with cherished memories. He checked his children out of school early one day to attend a concert of his favorite band, and he took the family on vacations to Cape May and Disney World. The best part was enjoying his everyday presence, and his jokes, which led to plenty of laughter.
In his free time, Peter was either jamming out to one of Steve Ray Vaughn’s albums while working in the garage, or assembling puzzles on a quiet evening.
Peter was a caring dog owner as well. Doug Svizeny, his 16-year-old basset hound, is his best friend. They always went on car rides to take out the recycling. Afterwards, Peter bought chicken nuggets for Doug as a treat. When they were not in the pickup truck, they could be found on the couch together while Peter played angry birds or watched UFO conspiracy theory television shows or treasure hunting shows like the Curse of Oak Island.
Peter had a gentle demeanor and was a good man who loved his wife and children. He will be missed by all who knew him.
His funeral service will be at Immaculate Conception, 6650 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington NC on Thursday August 19th at 9 am. A visitation the night before the service will be at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC, 28412.
