Phillip Ray Norris

Phil was born on August 9, 1939 in Benson, NC to the late Wade Vernon Norris and Mattie Blanche Baker Norris.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jean Johnson Norris.

He is survived by his daughter, Marcia Norris Southerland of Raleigh, NC and three grandchildren, Lindsey, Will and Lily Southerland.  He is also survived by his brothers, Don Norris of Columbia, SC, and Joe Norris (Miriam) of Raleigh, NC and his sister, Glenda Johnson (Rollins) of Smithfield, NC.

Phil was fortunate to have many wonderful years with Jean in retirement at the beach before she passed away in 2013.  He loved to go fishing and boating with his good friend Larry and he enjoyed taking his dog Lucy for rides around the beach in the Jeep.  Phil and his brothers, Don and Joe, enjoyed taking trips down to Litchfield Beach and cruises to the Bahamas.  He most loved having Marcia and his grandchildren visit, and adored seeing them all grow up making memories at his beloved Carolina Beach.   Phil will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Phil served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.  He attended First Baptist Church of Carolina Beach where Jean was a member.  

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Carolina Beach, with Pastor Hal Hiatt officiating.   The family will receive visitors immediately after the service in the Fellowship Hall.
