Gayle was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Above all, she was the heart of her family. Her family meant everything to her, and she devoted her life to loving and caring for those closest to her.
Gentle, genuine, loyal, and selfless, Gayle was always there whenever someone needed her. She loved wholeheartedly and consistently put the people she cared for before herself. She carried a positive spirit throughout her life and possessed a special gift for making others feel welcomed, loved, and cared for. Her quiet sense of humor was also one of her most endearing qualities; when Gayle had something to say, she could usually make everyone laugh.
Gayle was a graduate of John T. Hoggard High School and went on to begin what would become a remarkable 51-year career in healthcare. She served as a Human Resources Coordinator with Trillium Health Resources, where her dedication to helping others reflected the compassion and loyalty that defined her throughout her life.
Gayle was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne Floyd; her father, Robert Benjamin Walker; her mother, Geraldine Gene Stewart; and her brother, Robert Walker.
She is survived by her beloved stepson, Nick Floyd; her treasured grandchildren, Maddie and Dylan Floyd, who were the light of her life and whom she loved beyond measure; her daughter-in-law, Blain Floyd; her mother-in-law, Jean Floyd, with whom she shared a special bond and dearly loved spending time; her sisters, Loretta Heimbach and husband Rick, Cathy Lantz and husband Billy, and Donna Walker; her brothers-in-law, Ray Floyd and Charlie Floyd and wife Carla; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Gayle’s greatest legacy is the love she leaves behind. Her kindness, loyalty, humor, and selfless devotion to her family will continue to live on through all those whose lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a woman who loved her family with everything she had.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with a funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at Andrews Mortuary, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington, North Carolina.
