Richard Craig Cousler, 64, left this world July 24th, 2023, leaving behind his loving family who meant the absolute world to him. He was born in York, PA on July 1st, 1959, to Bill and Joyce Cousler of Havelock, NC.
Rick proudly served 8 years for the U.S. Air Force, traveling the world, and making lifelong friends everywhere he went.
He was always the life of the party and such a joy to have around. There’s nothing he loved more than spending time with his family and making memories. He always had the camera or video recorder on, capturing our happiest moments for us all to enjoy. We are forever grateful for that and the endless footage we have of our family. He was extremely proud of his children and always made it a point to let them know.
Rick could typically be found cranking up his favorite music and dancing around like it was Woodstock. Dad, aka wire man, aka part-time DJ, if it had anything to do with music or wiring speakers for music, he was the expert. His love for music is something he passed on to all his children; he was especially happy listening to his son play in his reggae band.
He loved spending his time fishing, golfing, surfing, listening to live music and traveling. He enjoyed road trips and going camping to star gaze, watch meteor showers and eclipses, and to catch the moon rise over the ocean.
Rick embarked on his final road trip and was welcomed with loving arms by his mother and father, his older brother Steve, and his dog, Jax, in heaven. Rick was never quite the same after his mother passed away and we find comfort knowing they are reunited.
Rick is survived by his two brothers, Barry (Elaine) and Jeff (Danielle), his three children, Jennifer (Alec), Tyler (Katie), Erica (Jordan), his stepdaughter, Nicole (Rob), his five grandchildren, Cohen, Cooper, Crosby, Alyvia, and Colby, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held in September in Wilmington, NC. If you would like to attend the memorial service, please send an email to [email protected] for time, date, and location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Rick’s memory to Surfers Healing, an organization that keeps Rick’s love for people and surfing alive and open to everyone.
