Robert "Bob" Alvin Blake

Robert 'Bob' Alvin Blake, 90, of Wilmington, entered into eternal peace Sunday, April 17, 2016 surrounded by family at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Bob was born May 22, 1925 to the late Zenon Blaszczyk and Helen Blaszczyk in Buffalo, NY. 

Bob, a WW2 veteran, graduated from University of Buffalo June 1950 before going on to spend 34 years as an engineer for DuPont. Previous to this, he worked as a skilled butcher at the famous Broadway Market in Buffalo, NY. For DuPont, Bob's work encompassed setting up new textile facilities across the southeastern United States and later after retirement, went on to help complete construction for the Wilmington International Airport (ILM); overall a career that spanned approximately 20+ moves before finally retiring in Wilmington North Carolina. During his non-working hours he enjoyed all aspects of gardening, whether it be for growing flowers, tomatoes or cabbages.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife Shirley Henrietta Frier Blake.

Bob is survived by his brother Donald Blake; sons Robert 'Bobby' and David Blake; grandchildren Geoffrey, Emily and Suzanne Blake.

We would like to add a special thanks and gratitude for all the help we received from the Lower Cape Fear Hospice team for all their special assistance.  We would like to mention Mary Ayer (Recently deceased) for all her companionship to Bob throughout the recent years.

A wake will be held Wednesday April 20th from 6pm to 8pm at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. 

A graveside service will be held April 21st at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC at 10am with Father John McGee officiating.
