Robert Britt Byrne

Robert "Bob" Britt Byrne, 87, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Bradley Creek Health Center. He was born July 6, 1933 in Washington, DC to the late J. Robert and Lydia Britt Byrne. He was also predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou Byrne and a sister, Betty Lou Byrne Caldwell.

Bob is survived by his children; Ellen Gibbons James, Wendy Byrne Conti (Mario), Brenda Gibbons (Noel Sickler), Britt Byrne (Kip), Patrick Gibbons, Jr. (Gina), Tammy Byrne (Jordan Green) and Brian Gibbons (Robin); 15 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren.

Bob began his career in pest control working for his family's business, Apex Exterminating Company, in 1953 while still in college. Eventually, he became an owner and president of American Pest Management serving the Washington, DC metro area until his retirement in 1996. He and Mary Lou moved to Wilmington in 1997 where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, boating, volunteering at church, classic cars and their many canine companions.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 3 pm Saturday, July 10, 2021 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends just before the service starting at 2 pm in the Church Nave.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Bob's name to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 612 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28403.
