Robert Thomas Highland of Wilmington, NC died unexpectedly on Monday, September 17, 2012. He was born May 5, 1971 in Fayette County, KY, the son of Fern Barrett Highland of Wilmington, NC and the late Leonard A. Highland. Robert began his education at the TEACCH Center and attended special education classes at New Hanover High School and Cape Fear Community College. He enjoyed Special Olympics and playing basketball. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Rachel Highland of Rocky Point, NC and Rhonda Stokes and husband Tony of Wilmington, NC; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and two canine companions, Buddy and Jill. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel with Rev. Danny Justice officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.
