Robert R. Howell, Sr.

When the world needed heroes during WWII, Robert (Bob) Howell, answered the call and joined the US Merchant Marines at the age of 14.  From October 1944 to April 1947, he made numerous trips across the Atlantic on liberty ships, surviving torpedo attacks to deliver essential supplies to our allied forces in Europe.

After the war, Bob returned home to Wilmington, NC to start a successful electrical contracting business, Howell Const. Co., Inc., which serviced the Atlantic seaboard for over 50 years.

Bob passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018, at the age of 90.  He was happily married to Lillian for 53 years.  He is survived by his four children, seven grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.  The family would like to thank all the caregivers from Home Instead for their compassion and care.  Services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park at 11:00am on Thursday, June 28.  Donations to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice may be made in lieu of flowers.
