Robert Stewart McDaniel

Born April 5th, 1938, Stewart spent his early years in Dublin, NC. After graduating from Elizabethtown High School, he joined the Army and served overseas as a Military Police Officer. After his service, he began working in the shipyard in Newport News, VA. There he met his wife, Martha Barbour. Several years later he found work at General Electric in Wilmington, NC and returned to his beloved hometown of Dublin. After his children graduated from high school, Stewart moved to Rocky Point to shorten his commute to G.E. where he worked until retirement in 1998.

“Fat Cat” cooked the world’s best shrimp and venison. Deer biscuits were requested for all family gatherings and there were never any left-overs. He was a fan of all sports and he enjoyed reading, working the daily crossword and playing online Poker with his brothers. Above all he loved deer hunting with his family and with his friends in the Whitetail Hunting Club.

He will be deeply missed by his two children, Robert Stewart McDaniel, Jr. (Charlene) of Wilmington and Lisa Wagner (Randy) of King George, VA; five siblings, Sarah Smith, Faith Thomas, Michael (Tracey) McDaniel, David (Bonnie) McDaniel, all of Dublin, NC and Grady (Beverly) McDaniel of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsey Wagner and Ashton McDaniel; and long-time friend and hunting partner, Charlie Wilson.

Stewart was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Mary (Sutton) McDaniel; his brother James McDaniel and Martha, his beloved wife of over 56 years.

Visitation will be held on February 3, 2021 from 1:00 to 2:00 at Coble Funeral and Cremation Services at Greenlawn Memorial Park Chapel, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC with the funeral service to immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center, Wilmington, NC or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
