

Robert Franklin Norton, 86, of Wilmington passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCareCenter. He was born on May 18, 1927 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Charles and Mary Norton. Bob is survived by his wife Glenda Norton; step-children, Kirby Canada (Gwen), Ray Hood (Gloria), Mildred Pittman; step-grandchildren, Kelsey Canada, Tony Carter (Harriett), Scott Hood, Donna Williams (Jeffery), Jennifer Nolan (Aaron) and Greg Pittman (Karen); many great grandchildren; and his siblings, Margaret Johnson (Larry), Roger Norton (Myrna) and Alan Norton (Sue). Bob honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was in the food brokerage business for many years. After retirement he sold real estate at Carolina Beach and was President of the Real Estate Association. Bob was a faithful servant to God. He was Superintendent of St. Paul's UMC at Carolina Beach for 40 plus years. He was a dedicated member of Wesley Memorial UMC in Wilmington. Bob was the Secretary Treasure of United Commercial Travelers Fraternal Order, local council 374. He was known as "Daddy Bob" and loved by all, especially children. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am, Monday September 2, 2013 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Margaret Hockett officiating. Interment will be private.
