Robert F. Register, Sr.

Mr. Robert F. Register, Sr., 85, passed away unexpectedly with his family by his side on Friday, December 27, 2013, after becoming suddenly ill on Christmas Day. Robert was born in 1928, in Magnolia, NC to the late Albert James and Ellie Baker Register. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Bell Ormsby Register; siblings, Dorothy Bradshaw, Thomas Register, Mattie Cavenaugh and Betty Boon. Robert leaves behind his children, Roberta "Robbie" Sue Register Snuggs (Mark) of Chapel Hill, NC and Robert Franklin Register, Jr. (Karen Jane Ely) of New Bern, NC; four grandchildren, Lauren Beth Register, Jason Benjamin Snuggs, Olivia Jane Register and Rachel Laura Snuggs and one great-grandchild, Isabelle Victoria Feinberg. Robert also leaves behind his dear friend and the second love of his life, Juanita Beard. He served in the US Navy on the USS Misipillion in the Pacific Ocean. After serving his country, he entered Barber School in Durham, NC. His career as a barber began in downtown Wilmington and continued to Castle Hayne Rd area. Robert and his business partner, Wade Pope, worked together for over fifty years. Robert always prided himself for giving a great haircut with a friendly smile and polite conversation. He retired in 2011 at the age of 83. Robert served as a deacon at Southside Baptist Church for many years. The last few years, Robert attended Calvary Baptist Church with Juanita. Robert enjoyed being with his family, working and gardening. In his later years, he enjoyed the company of several Senior Helpers, Marie, Mary, Betty, Diane, Tina, Marilyn, Melissa and others. Robert was also blessed by several good Samaritans over the last few years. A funeral service will be held at 11am, Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Those wishing to honor Robert's memory are welcome to send flowers or make donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
