
Robert Rockwell of Riegelwood, NC died Sunday, October 25, 2009 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 19, 1941 in Whiteville, NC the son of the late Paul G. and Elvia Formy-Duval Rockwell. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Rockwell and a sister, Kay Rockwell. Mr. Rockwell was a longtime active member of Riegelwood Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the Deacons, chairman of the Pastor search committee, chairman of the budget and finance committee, chairman of the building committee, as well as numerous other responsibilities including teaching Sunday School. He was instrumental in the process of selecting and installing an audiovisual system for the sanctuary, as well as overseeing the operations. He retired as a maintenance supervisor from International Paper Company after nearly 40 years. Then he taught mechanical skill classes for Southeastern Community College at International Paper. Currently he was a sales representative for F. P. Fensel Supply Company. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Linda Suggs Rockwell; a daughter, Wendy Rockwell Defendorf of High Point, NC; a son, Robert Kelly Rockwell and wife Michelle of Wake Forest, NC; four grandchildren, Luke Defendorf and Christine Defendorf both of High Point, NC, and Nicholas Rockwell and Alia Poppe, both of Wake Forest, NC; two brothers, David G. Rockwell and wife Dorothy of Fayetteville, NC, and Paul D. Rockwell and wife Judy of Whiteville, NC; one sister, Judy Rockwell Ellis and husband Tommy of Laurel Hill, NC; and several nieces and nephews. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Riegelwood Baptist Church by Rev. Charles Hester. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Riegelwood Baptist Church.
