

He was born August 22, 1923 in Philadelphia PA and lived to be 100 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph F. and Alma S. Winkler and his brothers John J. and Fred A. Winkler, along with his sisters Victoria Winkler and Isabel W. Loofbourow. In 1950 Robert married Marion W. Cram who preceded him in death in 2005. Robert then married Marie L. Sammons in 2007 and preceded him in death in 2018. His stepson Kurt Sammons preceded him in death in 2016.
Robert served in the Army and was a veteran of World War II in the Pacific serving in the Philippines and Leyte. Upon his discharge from the Army he attended and graduated from Drexel University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1949.
After several years of holding various engineering positions he then started working with the Campbell Soup Company in 1969 which led to many Engineering positions in the company in various locations around North America. He retired in 1988 from the Cherry Hill, NJ location.
Robert was very active with the Wilmington Railroad Museum and served on the Board of Trustees. He was also a member of Professional Engineering Societies and the Pine Valley Methodist Church.
He is survived by his son James Winkler, Surprise AZ, his stepsons Scott Sammons, Indian Trail NC and Todd Sammons, Wilmington NC.
A grave side funeral service will be held at Oleander Memorial Gardens at 2 PM, Thursday, January 18, 2024.
