Roger Wolf enlisted at 17, fulfilling a lifelong dream to be a Marine. He became a Marine just four days before the end of WWII rising to the rank of a second lieutenant but his military career came to an abrupt end as a result of an unexpected injury, but those who knew him suspected he never fully stopped being a Marine. After he retired, Roger helped build Marine Corps League Detachment 1321, serving as Commandant, as well as other positions within the detachment.
Roger’s careers included working as a Radar technician, and as a civil engineer at Philco Ford and Grumman Aircraft where he contributed to the development of the Lunar Landing Module. His work took him and his wife Patty and his four daughters all over the world. In Iran, just as he was settling into some business ventures a revolution was brewing, so he sent his family out. When things spun out of control with the takeover of the American Embassy, he abandoned his businesses and "walked out", as the saying goes.
Roger Wolf died on June 20, 2021, Father’s Day. He is survived by his wife Patty and daughters Donna, Nancy and Debra, as well as four grandchildren and one great grandchild. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 25 at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel, located at 17730 Hwy. 17 N., Hampstead, NC 28443.
