Ronald L. Mattia, 81, of Wilmington passed away on February 11, 2020. He was born in Lancaster, PA on July 28, 1938 son of the late Edmund and Lovetta Mattia. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Edmund Mattia Jr. Ronald was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. He enjoyed being outside, gardening, fishing, and hunting. He valued education and would often be found reading a good book but what he loved most of all was spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Catherine Mattia, son, Ronald C. Mattia and wife Laura of Newnan, GA, daughters; Desiree Troy and husband Paul of Quincy, MA, Suzanne Sload and husband Neil of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren: Sarah Troy, Mathew Troy, Lauren Mattia, Hannah Mattia, Emily Troy, Ronald M. Mattia, Sophia Sload and Curren Sload; sister, Mrs. Barbara Martin and husband, Sam of Willow St., Pa and sister-in-law, Mrs. Sandy Mattia of New Providence, Pa and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, February, 17, 2020 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral & Cremation Service. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409.

Mrs Mattia, Ron, Des, Suzy and extended family, my condolences on your loss. Mr Mattia, husband, father had an immense positive impact on my life and I am forever grateful to all of you for sharing a part of him with me. I remember how proud he was of all of you, his kindness, jokes, stories and humility. I always felt comfortable in your home and at your dinner table, he was A major reason why! Mr Mattia is one of my heroes that I will always remember with great fondness. I can only imagine how much all of you will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My deepest condolences. Your family has always been so nice to me thru all the years with everything I have been thru. I can honestly say that I feel your loss I know that when a love one is gone the pain that is felt.
