Ruby-white Byrd of Wilmington died Friday, July 29, 2011 at her home. She was born October 19, 1928 in Raleigh, NC daughter of the late Dennis Richard Arnold and Ruby Fuller White Arnold. Ruby taught 2nd grade at Wadsworth School in Decatur, GA for twenty-five years was a volunteer at NHRMC for twelve years and started the Kangaroo Caper Program at NHRMC. Surviving are her husband of thirty nine years John Robert Byrd, Sr., daughter, Martha Tate Fox and husband John of Geneseo and Cooperstown, NY, stepson, John R. Byrd, Jr. of Panama City, FL, grandchildren, Harper Fox III, Gordon Fox, Oliver Fox and Mary Fox, god daughter, Amy Davis and three special caretakers, Doris Peters, Rosa Mae McNeil and Mildred McClammy. A funeral service will be held 7pm Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A graveside service will be held 2pm Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Montlawn Memorial Park Raleigh, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
