
Russell Clarence Alstatt, loving husband , father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, 84, died Monday evening, January 7, 2008 at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Alstatt was a native of Denver, CO, but had lived in Wilmington since 1969. He was born in 1923, the only child of the late Victor Alstatt and Rolla McChesney Alstatt. He was a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO and served in the US Army during World War II in the Combat Engineers in the European Theater. He saw action in the Battle of the Bulge and crossed the famous Remagen Bridge before its fall. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Alstatt worked as a nuclear engineer for over 33 years with General Electric at Hanford, Washington, San Jose, California, and Wilmington, NC. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of over 61 years, Twanette Kauble Alstatt, three daughters, Diana Street and husband Preas of Martinez, GA, Vicki Thayer of Wilmington, and Shelley Gupton and husband Greg of Wilmington, five grandchildren, Deborah Markowski and husband Stanislaw of Evans, GA, Michele Greene and husband Clinton of Evans, GA, Jordan Gupton, Erin Thayer, and John Gupton all of Wilmington, four great grandchildren, Tyler Alford, Katherine Markowski, Jonathan Greene, and Jessica Greene all of Evans, GA. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, January 11, 2008 at Andrews Market Street Chapel with Rev. Jeff Roberts officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM at Andrews Market Street Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans P.O.
