Sallie M. Merritt

Sallie Mae Merritt, 87, passed peacefully Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Mrs. Merritt was the daughter of the late Lucien and Ella Bishop. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Charles Edwin Merritt, 5 brothers, 3 sisters, and most recently, her daughter, Carole Merritt Morgan. Sallie is survived by 1 sister; Barbara “Bobbie” Gore, two grandchildren; Kelly Jett Boan and husband Joseph, Kimberly Jett Dillaman and husband David, two great grandchildren; Joseph Jett Boan and Brock Langley Dillaman, her son-in-law; Kenneth R. Morgan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sallie lived her life doing God’s work on this earth. She nurtured and loved numerous children in her home whose lives were forever touched by her kindness.

The family will receive friends 12:30 PM-2:00 PM, Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Coble Ward-Smith Oleander Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, also at Coble Ward-Smith Oleander Chapel, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
