Sandra Cobb Brown

She was born January 17, 1942 in Windsor, NC, the daughter of the late Edna Phelps Cobb and Melvin Rudolph Cobb Sr. She was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin "Rudy" Cobb Jr. of Wilmington, NC.

Sandra is survived by her loving family: her husband of 55 years, Cliff Brown; son, Adam Brown; stepchildren, Clifton L. Brown IV (Jenny), Dana Parker (Dale), and Jay Brown (Tricia); nephew, Barry S. Cobb (Emily); niece, Amy Cobb Murray (Matt); and many extended family and friends.

Sandra attended Merry Hill Academy and graduated from Windsor High School. She graduated from East Carolina University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science. After graduating from ECU, she taught Economics with the Beaufort County School System until she started her career with the North Carolina Extension Service for Washington County in 1969. On November 23, 1968, she married Cliff and they resided in Plymouth, NC until 2000. While working for the NC Extension Service, Sandra became the Director of Extension for Washington County and obtained a Masters degree in Education from NC State University. She retired from the NC Extension Service in 1995 and continued her life in Plymouth until she and Cliff moved to Hampstead, NC in 2000. 

After moving to Hampstead, Sandra obtained a certification to become a Master Gardener and dedicated over 1,000 volunteer hours in the Hampstead area. Her favorite flower was orchids which she raised and sold to local florists. Along with her avid love for gardening, she enjoyed traveling, reading, basketmaking, and spending time with her family. 

Not only was Sandra a beloved wife, but a wonderful mother, aunt, and loyal friend. She was a devoted and active member of Hampstead Baptist Church and treasured her church family and friends. She brought a great deal of grace, goodness, and light into this world. Her presence in her family circle will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank special caregivers: Carrie Burleson, Cynthia Simpson, and Dorothy Hyman along with Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the excellent care of Sandra, making her transition a peaceful one.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Monday, January 8, at Hampstead Baptist Church.
