Sarah Elizabeth Casey

Sarah Elizabeth Casey “Liz”, daughter of Dewey and Willie Smith was born April 12, 1930 and died April 23, 2021.  She grew up in Dudley, NC and graduated from Brogden High School.  Married Gary Casey.  She is survived by her four daughters:  Connie Woody (Ray), Vickie Pond (Howie), Kay Casey, Betty Jo McGrath (Jimmy) and her grandchildren:  Matthew Woody, Howard Pond (John), Michelle Pond McCullough (Jon), Joseph McGrath (Sarah) and Michael McGrath.  Predeceased by grandson, Adam Woody and her four siblings:  Edward Smith, Mae Jones, Charles Smith and Dorothy Kuhn.

She was a graduate of Goldsboro Program of Practical Nursing Education and became a licensed practical nurse.  She worked for over twenty years at Fairfax Hospital in Virginia.  When she retired she followed her dream to live at the beach. 

She is remembered as a strong, straightforward and independent woman who loved and took pride in her family.  She was influential in many people’s lives.  Her legacy lives on through her four strong, independent daughters.   

Her memorial will be in a private service at the beach she loved,  attended by family and her close friends.
