Shirley Mae Hewett Skipper

Shirley Hewett Skipper age 78 went to be with the Lord on Tuesday November 10, 2015 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was born in Brunswick County NC on June 19 1937 to the late Ervin Hewett and Ruby Cottle.

Shirley loved flowers, gardening, her church family of Greenfield Baptist Church; had a passion for the homeless; and adored her boxer-bulldog, Marshall.

She is preceded in death by a sister Wilma Huffman and brother Freddy Cottle, Jr.

She is survived by sons, Jack A. Tompkins, Jr (Lani), John Skipper (Cheryl) and daughters, Janice Godwin (James) Debra T. Carier (Edward) and Margaret S. Whitehurst (Billy). Shirley is also survived by a brother, John W. Hewett, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday November 15, 2015 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service at 3915 Oleander Dr., Wilmington. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Monday November 16, 2015 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, with Pastor Dan Bennett officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Greenfield Baptist Church building fund at 1401 South 3rd St. Wilmington NC 28401.
