My prayers and condolences go out to Steve's family.  I had the pleasure of working with Steve in Oregon.  When I first started, he thoughtfully took me under his wing and showed me the ropes.  I was definitely blessed by his kindness and colorful personality. It was a privilege to have known Steve, he will be truly missed.

To Steve's family, I send prayers, love, and hope. I was shocked to hear of Steve's passing. He was a joy to work with, and the best trombonist ever! I will miss him!

I was fortunate enough to work with Steve, testing computer software.  He was incredibly hard working, and quick with a joke.  He will truly be missed.

i had the pleasure of working with steve at intel, and he was a very cool dood. for a time i gave him a ride to the train station after work, which was right on my way home and no big deal. but he always acted like i was doing him such a huge favor, we became friends. later on facebook when i first got my saltwater tank, he helped me with some questions i had. peace steve

Condolences to the family on the loss of Steve.  I worked with him in Portland at Intel for about a year and a half.  He inspired me to get back to playing trombone and actually loaned my his prized Benge for a few months.  He was a really good tech and an incredible trombone player, a real musician.  I'm sorry that I'll neither see him or get to hear him play again.  A great loss but wonderful memories!

So shocked and sorry to hear of Steve's passing.  Ice kept me inside all week, but my prayers and thoughts were with you and your family.  God bless all of you and give you peace.

Susan and Lori, my sons I are very saddened by Steve's passing.  They remember him mostly from lifeguarding and playing baseball with him at Riegelwood.  They will never forget the day his great dane went to school with him.  They really got a big kick out of that.  Take care and hang in there.  My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Susan and all the family: I was very shocked to hear this terrible news. Although the icy roads have prevented much travel, I want you to know that I have been thinking of you all every day. My heart goes out to you. I can only imagine the heartbreak of losing a child. Having witnessed several of my friends go through this, I can only pray that God touches your heart and heals some of the pain as he did for them. I feel we grow stronger by things we go through. Although we don't understand "WHY" at the time, it is God's grace that will get us through and HE is in control. Please let me know if you need anything at all. Susan,Lori, and family....I am so sorry for your loss...I am one who hadn't seen him in a long time, but I remember when Steve,Lori,Chuck, and Lynette  were little and came to church at Cape Fear....it doesn't seem that long ago,but it is obvious that Steve grew up to be an accomplished adult and will be sorely missed...praying God's comfort for you all at this difficult time...

Meeting Steve in college was great!  He was one of the most supportive, engaging and talented people I have ever met.  His smile was incredibly contagious, and he was incredibly confident in himself, always challenging others to do better.  His tone on trombone was masterful.  His support and encouragement everything to me as a flute performance freshman in college.  His heart was warm, loving and giving and a great gamer!  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.  See you when we see you Steve, you are playing the herald trombone in the 'symphony behind the clouds'!  You are greatly missed!  See you my friend.

I was terribly saddened to hear of Steve's passing. I knew him from college. I wish I could offer words to ease the pain, but I'm not sure such words

Today I am missing my friend more than I ever knew I would. We had a lot of good times and I will always cherish each memory. I'm so very sorry to hear of Steve's passing.  Sending my love and prayers to his family and loved ones.

I want to tell you why I'll miss Steve. As Concertmaster of the Wilmington Symphony, it is my job to tune up the orchestra before a concert. I must turn my back to the audience and then the oboe gives the tuning note. Then I look at the brass section and see Steve's smiling face; always encouraging, always joyful and ready to play his trombone well. I will miss him. The symphony will miss him. He contributed much more than fine trombone playing.

My heart is sadden to hear of your lost. Please know that my prayers are with your family during this time  of bereavement.

I am so sorry to find out that Steve has passed away. Now he is up there with his Dad and his uncle. So glad I was able to spend Christmas Eve breakfast with him. Susan I pray that God will hold you and all the family close and give you the comfort you are going to need.

Susan, you will recall that wonderful (RootyTooty) Henry Brodnax - this is just one more thing I learned from him......."when you feel like you've reached the end of your rope; tie a knot and hold on". Maybe this will help you in time.  I believe it's  been 30 plus years since I last saw Steve, but this photo of him certainly appears reminiscent of a friendly and happy young Steve.  How special it would have been to have seen him performing in the Wilmington Symphony, I know how proud you must have been.  Wish I were close by  so I could do something for you, Susan, that's what friends do...they help each other in a time of need, so let me know what I can do to help you from a long distance, please.
