April 1, 1947 – August 2, 2021
Steven Lynn Johnston passed away peacefully on Monday, August 2, 2021 at the age of 74. Steve was born in Arlington, VA on April 1, 1947. He lived in the Wilmington area from 1977 until his passing. He is survived by his daughter Natalie and his sisters Linda and Leslie.
He is preceded in death by his daughters, Hilleary Ann and Danelle Marie, as well as his parents, Sam and Jean.
Steve was known for his quick wit and his ability to make people laugh. He inherited his mother's talent and love of visual arts. He was skilled at painting, photography, wood etching, and so much more. He had a deep love for animals, especially his cats who were his "kids.” He loved cooking and gardening, and was especially known for his stellar tomato crops. He was a salt water buff and taught many kiddos how to kayak, fish, rake clams, and knock oysters. Steve's career spanned from banking, real estate to artist, and most recently he loved working as a volunteer at Fort Johnston in Southport. Whatever Steve did, he did to the fullest. He will be missed by many and leaves behind a legacy of laughter, humor, and a love for all the good things in life.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, August 14, at 2:00 pm at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market St, Wilmington. The family will receive visitors from 1:00-1:45 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Central/Eastern Carolinas Chapter in honor of his daughters he lost to cystic fibrosis.
