Sue Woodmansee Brewer of Wilmington, NC died July 6th, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center in Wilmington. Sue was born June 22nd, 1932 in Waterbury CT, daughter of the late Stanley D. Woodmansee and Dorothy J. Stellenwerf (Woodmansee). She was preceded in death by her only brother Stanley D. Woodmansee. Mrs. Brewer graduated from Milford High school, Milford CT in 1950 after which she attended Mount Ida Junior College, Newton Center, MA. Sue went on to earn an Associate's degree in Interior Design from the Traphagen School of Design, NYC and then went to work as a buyer for D.M. Reeds Co., Bridgeport, CT. Her education in Interior Design was evident in her eye for detail, color and creativity. Sue married Charles F. Brewer June 2, 1956 and lived in many states throughout their marriage. She leaves behind her spouse Charles along with her children Charles D. Brewer of Wilmington, NC, Amy A. Brewer of Memphis, TN, Gordon D. Brewer of Jacksonville, NC, Polly Jean Winkelvoss of Cranberry Township, PA and Lesley B. Mattson of Lake Stevens, WA. She and Charles celebrated the births of all their 9 grandchildren, Erin, Chase, Matthew, Andrew, Austin, Molly, Rachel, Lydia, Tristan and their great granddaughter Rosie. Mrs. Brewer used her creative talents throughout her life. She was active in the Garden Club in Ballston Lake, NY where she won several awards for her floral designs. Sue enjoyed arranging flowers, set stunning holiday tables, beautifully decorated rooms in her homes, designed one of a kind Christmas wreaths, ornaments and decorative pieces. Christmas was her favorite time of year and eagerly awaited its arrival. Her husband and children treasure the special memories of family holidays into which she put so much of herself. She was an excellent cook. Holidays were significant for the array of special foods she lovingly prepared. Sue and Charles remember fondly and talked often of the friends and church members at First Presbyterian Church, Winchester, VA where they were both active and lovingly supported. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who is very sorely missed. The family will be receiving friends Saturday July 11th, between 2-4 pm at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market Street, Wilmington, NC. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made in Sue's name to the National Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org). Condolences may be sent to www.andrewsmortuary.com
