Sylvia Williams Midgett passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 13, 2022 after a brave battle with cancer and IPF of the lungs. Her father, James, preceded her in death, forty-five years ago on the same day.
Sylvia was born in the small community of Tin City, NC at the home of her grandparents, the late William Fennel and Lucy Dixon Futrell. Shortly after that, the family moved to Wilmington, NC where she and her parents continued to live with her grandparents. She and her younger sister, loved having two “sets” of parents. Sylvia was the daughter of the late James Franklin and Elva Futrell Williams and grandparents David and Myrtle Williams.
Sylvia worked for many years at Greenlawn Memorial Park as a Sales Counselor. Later, she worked for Comfort Keepers. It was there that she was the happiest caring for her clients and their families. That was Sylvia’s calling, looking after others.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bruce Midgett; four sons: Daymon, Elliott, Pierce (Beverly) and Bryan (Paige); three granddaughters: Marley, Peyton and McKenna; grandson Dillon; sister JoAnne Williams Ward; niece Allison Ward Tam (Jason) and their son William Ward Tam; sister-in-laws: Veda James (Willie), Rene’ James (Freeman) and Jeanette Midgett (Renee); and brother-in-law Robbie Midgett (Patricia).
The family will have a private service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lower Cape Fear Lifecare, Meals on Wheels or the charity of one’s choice.
A special thanks goes to her doctors: Dr. Kotz, Dr. Lewis, Dr. Jones and NP-C Holly Smith for their excellent care. The family would also like to thank the staff of Lower Cape Fear Lifecare, especially nurse Olga and CNA Shrie. They would also like to thank the staff and volunteers at Meals on Wheels.
