Tami Maggio

Born in Homestead, Florida, Tami proudly carried her South Florida roots with her throughout her life and became known to many as “DJ Tami from Miami.” Tami was charismatic, funny, warm, and unapologetically herself. She was full of life and had a way of making friends wherever she went. Tami brought a joy and energy that was entirely her own.

More than anything, Tami loved her family with her whole heart. Being a mom and “Nona” were among the greatest joys of her life, and she was incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren.

She had a gift for making ordinary life feel special. Tami didn’t save her excitement for the big milestones. A grandchild learning a new word, a first day of school, a fresh haircut, a new recipe; if it mattered to someone she loved, it mattered to her. She remembered what was happening in everyone’s lives, showed up with little surprises, celebrated alongside the people she loved, and helped keep her family connected. Tami made people feel seen, known, and celebrated.

Laughter was also a big part of who Tami was. She believed laughter was good for the soul and was always finding (or creating) something to laugh about, even during some of life’s hardest moments. She was an incredible fighter who faced more than her share of difficult circumstances without losing the humor, joy, and love that made her who she was.

One of the great loves of Tami’s life was her husband, John. The two met in Elizabeth City, where they were both DJs, and married in 2013. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, family, and trips to her favorite place, Disney World. John was Tami’s rock and she was incredibly grateful for the way he loved her. Their marriage was one of the things she was most proud of, and his love was a source of strength and comfort throughout their life together.

Tami’s love for people extended well beyond her family. She deeply valued her friendships and especially loved the friends and members she came to know through her work at Figure Eight Island Yacht Club. She had a way of connecting with people that made them feel immediately comfortable and important. It wasn’t unusual for someone to walk away from a conversation with Tami feeling like they had just made a new best friend.

On August 23, 2026, Tami peacefully passed away in her home. Tami was preceded in death by her mother, Tina (Stan). Tami is survived by her husband, John; her children, Brittney (Blake), Emily (Caleb), Daniel (Tianna), and Lilly; her beloved grandchildren, DJ, Luna, Beckham, Piper, and Ferris; her sister, Casey (Hakan, Alex, Alyssa); her brother, Cory (Samme); her father, Bill (Lauren).

Her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but so much of Tami remains in the family traditions she created, the songs that will always make someone think of her, the laughter she brought into hard moments, the magic she found in ordinary life, and in all the people who know what it feels like to have been loved by her.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Tami’s life on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Coble Funeral Home, 1155 Shipyard Boulevard, Wilmington, North Carolina 28412. Visitation with her family will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m., and a light lunch will be provided afterwards.

In honoring Tami, her family hopes those who loved her will carry forward some of what she gave so freely: love your people wholeheartedly, celebrate the little things, laugh whenever you can, be unapologetically yourself, and never pass up an opportunity to make an ordinary moment special.
