Teresa Clare Schmitt Thomson, 96, of Leland, went to be with God, Tuesday, January 20, 2015. She was born July 11, 1918, in New York, NY, to the late George M. Schmitt and Maria Christ Schmitt. During her life, Teresa enjoyed skiing, painting, poetry, assisting with the care of the grandchildren during their formative years, and creating scavenger hunts with her great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomson; sister, Dorothy Connacher; nephew, Richmond Connacher and grandnephew, Christopher Schwab, Jr. Survivors include her daughter, Janette Channing and her husband Donald; grandson, Joseph Scappatura and wife Monika; granddaughter, Dina Scappatura; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew and Brianna Mahoney; nephew, Chris Schwab and wife Lisa; grandnephews, Dr. Gregory Schwab and wife Maureen; great-grandnephew, Mitchell Schwab and great-grandniece, Brooke Schwab. A funeral mass will be held for family invited guests only. Burial will take place in Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
