
Thomas Russel Clark, age 80, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026. He was born on December 7, 1945, in Fairmont, NC, to Tracy and Sadie Clark. Thomas was a proud member of the Lumbee Tribe in North Carolina.
Known for his boundless generosity, zest for life, and relaxed demeanor, he was affectionately called Thomas, Tom, Coach TR, or Tiny. His passion for golf ignited at a young age while he caddied during pro/am tournaments, forging a lifelong love for the game. He also spent years coaching Pop Warner football, leading teams like the Colts, Rams, and Bears. Along with coaching local youth soccer and softball. A proud alumnus of New Hanover High School, he graduated in 1966, having earned recognition as a star fullback on the football team.
Emulating his father’s career, he joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) right after graduating. He embarked on a rewarding career that included stints at DuPont, GE, and Cape Industries. He ultimately found fulfillment in public service and retired from the City of Wilmington after a dedicated tenure.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald Clark and Randy Clark, and his first wife, Pam Clark.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Clark; sisters Peggy Clark and Betty Clark; brother Rex Clark (Dorothy); children Jennifer Peele-Clark (Emila) and Jason Clark; grandchildren Jadon Clark, Eric Peele, Rya Clark, Bralen Clark, and Oliver Gregory; and great-granddaughter Layla Hoston.
The family will welcome friends and family for a viewing on September 13, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 College Rd, Wilmington, NC 28412. Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel will hold a service on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 10:00 am followed by a celebration of life at Northside Church, 2501 N College Rd, Wilmington, 28405.
