Tom was born in Burlington Vermont, son of the late John T. Hanna and Dorothea Smith Hanna. Tom is survived by his daughter Kate Hanna; his daughter Torrey Annas, her husband Matt Annas and their daughters, Sloan and Hadley; by his son Thomas Hanna and his wife Sarah Swan; by his sister Charlotte Hanna of Calais, Vermont; and by his birth mother Darlene Ryan of Wells, ME.
Tom grew up skiing and sailing, and was a fierce competitor at both. He attended Vermont Academy where he skied all four events, and made lifelong friends. He then moved to Breckenridge, Colorado where he was a well respected ski coach for many years. He also began his career in building customs homes. He and his former wife, Marion Moncure, moved their family to Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina in the winter of 1986. Here he continued to build beautiful custom homes around the area and built the legacy that is TB Hanna Construction. Tom was an avid runner, sailor, and cyclist for much of his life. In recent years he became a dedicated amateur photographer, specializing in wildlife, and in UNCW athletic events. Many of us have been fortunate enough to join him on the road, in the water, on the golf course, or in the gardens and are better because of it.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 25th at Wrightsville Beach Brewing Company from 4:00-8:00. Tom was not much for formalities and would much rather the people who loved him the most gather together and raise a cold one in his memory than anything else. We invite you to join us anytime during that window and share your memories and celebrate the truly amazing life Tom lived.
