Born Sept. 23, 1962 Death August 25, 2021
Thomas Daniel Humphrey, 58, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Tom was born in Raleigh, NC and graduated from Millbrook High School. While in Raleigh Tom owned and operated a garage and started Capitol Game Brokers, an arcade and video game business. Capitol Game Brokers led Tom and his family to move to Carolina Beach where they grew their business throughout the Wilmington area. Those business relationships allowed he and his wife to take their first venture in to being restaurateurs by opening The Old Pier House Restaurant in Kure Beach and then later with a business partner, conceived and opened Jack Mackerels Island Grill located on Kure Beach. Managing these businesses plus an arcade enabled Tom and his family to meet many people and make life-long friends throughout the area.
Later Tom started a new venture by opening the Boathouse Restaurant located in Wilmington. As an owner and operator, he was known for providing excellent calabash style seafood and service. It is still in operation today and his son will be managing it moving forward.
Tom loved spending time with family and friends and living life to the fullest. He took on many hobbies and was successful at most anything he attempted. Once he came up with an idea, he would explore it to its fullest extent. There never was a dull moment being around Tom.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Daniel Humphrey, Jr. and wife Alyssa Ashley Humphrey of Wilmington, and his daughter, Margaret Pennstrom Eubank and her husband, Austin Turner Eubank and grandson Baylor Mack Eubank of Wilmington. Two sisters, Karen Humphrey Starnes of Kernersville, and Marsha Humphrey McManus and husband David Todd McManus of Banner Elk. Four nieces and nephews and one great niece.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Vann Hilliard Humphrey, Jr. and Ramona Teller Humphrey.
